Optimization in finance means turning a forecast or a preference into positions: mean-variance and its risk-parity and minimum-variance cousins, robust and distributionally-robust formulations, cardinality- and turnover-constrained programs, multi-period dynamic programming, and the stochastic-control problems that generalize all of them. Nearly every portfolio-construction and execution paper lands here.
What to check when reading. The known trap is that an optimizer amplifies estimation error: unconstrained mean-variance on noisy means is an error-maximizer. A credible paper shows how inputs are estimated and shrunk, compares against equal-weight and minimum-variance baselines that need no return forecast, reports turnover and the transaction costs it implies, and tests out of sample with the estimation window moving forward. Equality constraints and a convex solver are not the hard part; the inputs are.
The integration of cryptocurrencies into institutional portfolios necessitates the adoption of robust risk modeling frameworks. This study is a part of a series of subsequent works to fine-tune model risk analysis for cryptocurrencies. Through this first research work, we establish a foundational be
With the increasing complexity of financial markets and rapid growth in data volume, traditional risk monitoring methods no longer suffice for modern financial institutions. This paper designs and optimizes a risk monitoring system based on big data and machine learning. By constructing a four-layer
Myopic investors are locally rational decision-makers but globally irrational. Their suboptimal portfolios lag the market. As a consequence, other market participants are provided with profit opportunities. Not subterfuge but constrained optimisation leads to disparities. Four overlapping examples a
European electricity trading in the EU operates as a constrained multi-layer system in which legal design, exchange microstructure, and network physics are executed jointly across forward, day-ahead, intraday, and balancing horizons. This paper develops a functional architecture for AI-supported tra
The impact investment market has an estimated value of almost $1.6 trillion. Significant progress has been made in determining the financial returns of impact investing. Investors are still, however, in the early stages of determining impact return. In this study, the author proposes the use of impa
We introduce a decision-making framework tailored for the management of systemic risk in networks. This framework is constructed upon three fundamental components: (1) a set of acceptable network configurations, (2) a set of interventions aimed at risk mitigation, and (3) a cost function quantifying
The passive management approach offers conservative investors a way to reduce risk concerning the market. This investment strategy aims at replicating a specific index, such as the NASDAQ Composite or the FTSE100 index. The problem is that buying all the index’s assets incurs high rebalancing costs,
This project focuses on analyzing retail market trends using historical sales data, search trends, and customer reviews. By identifying the patterns and trending products, the analysis provides actionable insights for retailers to optimize inventory management and marketing strategies, ultimately en
IntraLayer presents an innovative framework that enables comprehensive interconnectivity in digital finance. The proposed framework comprises a core underlying infrastructure and an overarching strategy to create a pioneering “platform of platforms”, serving as an algorithmic fiduciary. By design, t
Investigating the optimal nature of social interactions among actors (e.g., people or firms), who seek to achieve certain mutually-agreed objectives, has been the subject of extensive academic research. Using the relational models theory (describing all social interactions as combinations of four ba
This paper studies the bank dynamic decision problem in the intermediate time step for a discrete-time setup. We have considered a three-time-step model. Initially, the banks raise money through debt and equity and invest in different types of loans. It liquidates its assets and raises new funds at
There seems to exist significant similarities between a reactor system and a supply chain from collection to delivery. In the reactor case, neutrons are continuously produced and absorbed in nuclear fuel. In a supply system case, items are continuously collected and continuously delivered to destina
We use classical tools from calculus of variations to formally derive necessary conditions for a Markov control to be optimal in a standard finite time horizon stochastic control problem. As an example, we solve the well-known Merton portfolio optimization problem.
This paper presents our methodology to simulate the behavior of the DeLend Platform. Such simulations are important to verify if the system is able to connect the different sets of agents linked to the platform in a functional manner. They also provide inputs to guide the choices of operational para
A currency with stable purchasing power can always provide a psychological haven for people around the world. However, since the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, issuing more cheap currencies has become a common trend in the international community, and the legalization and over issuance of sta
This study investigates the impact of the pandemic on the most traded stocks in the Colombian stock market for the date of January 17, 2024. Based on the daily data of the most traded companies in Colombia for said date and covering a period general from 2015 to 2023, in a summarized way our analysi
Decision theory recognizes two principal approaches to solving problems under uncertainty: probabilistic models and cognitive heuristics. However, engineers, public planners and decision-makers in other fields seem to employ solution strategies that do not fall into either field, i.e., strategies su
For a single event with finitely many mutually exclusive outcomes, the full Kelly problem is to maximize expected log wealth over nonnegative stakes together with an optional cash position. The optimal formula is classical, but the support-selection step is often presented via Lagrange multipliers.
The Sleeping Beauty problem is a problem of imperfect recall that has received considerable attention. One approach to solving the Sleeping Beauty problem is to allow Sleeping Beauty to make decisions based on her beliefs, and then characterize what it takes for her decisions to be “rational”. In pa
Project portfolio management is an essential process for organizations aiming to optimize the value of their R&D investments. In this article, we introduce a new tool designed to support the prioritization of projects within project portfolio management. We label this tool the PIT-plot, an acronym f
The lack of proper interoperability poses a significant challenge in leveraging use cases within the blockchain industry. Unlike typical solutions that rely on third parties such as oracles and witnesses, the interpool design operates as a standalone solution that mints, exchanges, and burns (MEB) w
In recent decades, financial quantification has emerged and matured rapidly. For financial institutions such as funds, investment institutions are increasingly dissatisfied with the situation of passively constructing investment portfolios with average market returns, and are paying more and more at
Applications of Reinforcement Learning in the Finance Technology (Fintech) have acquired a lot of admiration lately. Undoubtedly Reinforcement Learning, through its vast competence and proficiency, has aided remarkable results in the field of Fintech. The objective of this systematic survey is to pe
In July 2023, Nasdaq announced a `Special Rebalance’ of the Nasdaq-100 index to reduce the index weights of its large constituents. A rebalance as suggested currently by Nasdaq index methodology may have several undesirable effects. These effects can be avoided by a different, but simple rebalancing
In the context of adapting to global changes, the diversification of the tourist offer seems to be a solution for the mid-mountain areas, which are structured around and dependent on ski tourism. However, it remains unclear how tourism diversification occurs, what forms it can take and what it produ
The printing and labeling industries are struggling to meet the need for more complex and dynamic design requirements coming from the customers. It is now crucial to implement technological advancements to manage workflow, productivity, process optimization, and continual improvement. There has neve
Multi-horizon price forecasting is central to portfolio allocation, risk management, and algorithmic trading, yet deep learning architectures have proliferated faster than rigorous financial benchmarks can evaluate them. This study provides a controlled comparison of nine architectures (Autoformer,
We develop a fitted value iteration (FVI) method to compute bicausal optimal transport (OT) where couplings have an adapted structure. Based on the dynamic programming formulation, FVI adopts a function class to approximate the value functions in bicausal OT. Under the concentrability condition and
This work defines and studies one-dimensional convolution kernels that preserve nonnegativity. When the past dynamics of a process is integrated with a convolution kernel like in Stochastic Volterra Equations or in the jump intensity of Hawkes processes, this property allows to get the nonnegativity
