This is the mathematical core of derivatives pricing and dynamic optimization: diffusions and jump processes for prices, stochastic volatility (Heston, SABR, rough Bergomi) for option surfaces, backward SDEs and PDEs for valuation under frictions, and HJB equations for consumption, liquidation, and hedging problems. Papers here score high on math complexity almost by construction; the question is what they do on the empirical axis.
What to check when reading. Many papers in this family are theoretical by design and should be read as such: the contribution is a closed form, an existence result, or a numerical scheme. When a paper does claim market relevance, look for calibration to real option surfaces or realized paths with reported fit errors, out-of-sample pricing or hedging error rather than in-sample calibration, and an honest statement of what the model cannot reproduce (the ATM skew term structure is the usual casualty).
This paper studies a continuous-time portfolio selection problem under a general distribution of random risk aversion (RRA). We provide a complete characterization of all deterministic equilibrium strategies in closed form. Our results show that the structure of the solution depends crucially on the
We extend the Benamou-Brenier formula from classical optimal transport to weak optimal transport and show that the barycentric optimal transport problem studied by Gozlan and Juillet has a dynamic analogue. We also investigate a martingale relaxation of this problem, and relate it to the martingale
In this paper, we provide extended convolution bounds for the Fréchet problem and discuss related implications in quantitative risk management. First, we establish a new form of inequality for the Range-Value-at-Risk (RVaR). Based on this inequality, we obtain bounds for robust risk aggregation with
This paper is devoted to developing a unified framework for stochastic growth models with environmental risk, in which rare but catastrophic shocks interact with capital accumulation and pollution. The analysis is based upon a general Poisson point process formulation, leading to non-local Hamilton-
This paper studies the time-inconsistent MV optimal stopping problem via a game-theoretic approach to find equilibrium strategies. To overcome the mathematical intractability of direct equilibrium analysis, we propose a vanishing regularization method: first, we introduce an entropy-based regulariza
We study a consumption-investment problem in a multi-asset market where the returns follow a generic rank-based model. Our main result derives an HJB equation with Neumann boundary conditions for the value function and proves a corresponding verification theorem. The control problem is nonstandard d
We extend the theory of concentration inequalities to simple random tensors with heavy-tailed coefficients. Specifically, we consider the class of sub-Weibull distributions $\mathcal{S}_α$ for $α\in [1, 2]$. We establish concentration bounds for Euclidean functions of such tensors, exhibiting a phas
Stochastic differential equations have been an important tool in modeling complex financial relations, equipped with the possibility of being multidimensional to better oversee complexities inherent in finance. This multidimensionality, however, comes with a larger parameter space to estimate. There
This paper studies an optimal dividend problem for a company that aims to maximize the mean-variance (MV) objective of the accumulated discounted dividend payments up to its ruin time. The MV objective involves an integral form over a random horizon that depends endogenously on the company’s dividen
We propose a multivariate framework for modeling dependent default times that extends the classical Cox process by incorporating both common and idiosyncratic shocks. We present a novel approach for the bank’s decision problem, incorporating Limited Liability in the objective function. Accordingly, we consider continuous time models, with and without Limited Liability. We compare the solutions of these two models to demonstrate the effect of inclusion of Limited
This paper explores stochastic control models in the context of decarbonization within the energy market. We study three progressively complex scenarios: (1) a single firm operating with two technologies-one polluting and one clean,(2)two firms model and (3) two firms without any regulatory incentiv
In competitive supply chains (SCs), pricing decisions are crucial, as they directly impact market share and profitability. Traditional SC models often assume continuous pricing for mathematical convenience, overlooking the practical reality of discrete price increments driven by currency constraints
This paper studies the dividend and capital injection problem under a diffusion risk model with general discount functions. A proportional cost is imposed when injecting capitals. For exponential discounting as time-consistent benchmark, we obtain the closed-form solutions and show that the optimal
We investigate the Gatheral model of double mean-reverting stochastic volatility, in which the drift term itself follows a mean-reverting process, and the overall model exhibits mean-reverting behavior. We identify various classes of neural networks that are able to approximate continuous functions locally uniformly subject to fixed global linear growth constraints. For such neural networks the associated neural stochastic differential equations can approximate general stochastic differential equat
In this paper, we consider scaling limits of exponential utility indifference prices for European contingent claims in the Bachelier model. We show that the scaling limit can be represented in terms of the \emph{specific relative entropy}, and in addition we construct asymptotic optimal hedging stra
This paper provides a dual formulation of the optimal consumption problem with internal multiplicative habit formation. In this problem, the agent derives utility from the ratio of consumption to the internal habit component. Due to this multiplicative specification of the habit model, the optimal c
We study a class of singular stochastic control problems for a one-dimensional diffusion $X$ in which the performance criterion to be optimised depends explicitly on the running infimum $I$ (or supremum $S$) of the controlled process. We consider a continuous-time financial market with an asset whose price is modeled by a linear stochastic differential equation with drift and volatility switching driven by a uniformly ergodic jump Markov process with a countable state space (in fact, this is a Black-Scholes model with Markov swit
In an arbitrage-free simple market, we demonstrate that for a class of state-dependent exponential utilities, there exists a unique prediction of the random risk aversion that ensures the consistency of optimal strategies across any time horizon. Our solution aligns with the theory of forward perfor
We consider Merton’s problem with proportional transaction costs. It is well known that the optimal investment strategy is characterized by two trading boundaries, the buy boundary and the sell boundary, between which lies the no-trading region. We investigate how these two trading boundaries vary w
This paper is devoted to the study of a new class of random evolutions (RE), so-called self-exciting random evolutions (SEREs), and their applications. We also introduce a new random process $x(t)$ such that it is based on a superposition of a Markov chain $x_n$ and a Hawkes process $N(t),$ i.e., $x
Markovian projections arise in problems where we aim to mimic the one-dimensional marginal laws of an Itô semimartingale by using another Itô process with Markovian dynamics. Extending the framework established by arXiv:2101.09936, we analyze a power-utility maximization problem where an investor encounters proportional transaction cos
Testing by betting has been a cornerstone of the game-theoretic statistics literature. One bets against the null hypothesis, and the accumulated wealth $W_t$ quantifies the evidence against the null hypothesis after $t$ rounds, and the null can be rejected at level $α$ whenever $W_t \geq 1/α$. A key
We study the mean field limit of a rank-based model with common noise, which arises as an extension to models for the market capitalization of firms in stochastic portfolio theory. The role of a market maker is to simultaneously offer to buy and sell quantities of goods, often a financial asset such as a share, at specified prices. An automated market maker (AMM) is a mechanism that offers to trade according to some predetermined schedule; the best choice of this schedule depe

A backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) is an SDE of the form $-dY_t = f(t,Y_t,Z_t)dt - Z_t^*dW_t;\ Y_T = ξ$. The subject of BSDEs has seen extensive attention since their introduction in the linear case by Bismut (1973) and in the general case by Pardoux and Peng (1990). In contrast with
We consider an optimal stochastic control problem in which a firm’s cash/surplus process is controlled by dividend payments and capital injections. In this paper, we study the portfolio optimization problem formulated by Lacker and Soret. They formulate a finite time horizon model that allows agents to be competitive, measuring their utility not only by their absolute wealth but also relative performance compared to the average of other agents.
The classical mean-variance portfolio selection problem induces time-inconsistent (precommited) strategies (see Zhou and Li (2000)). By using the Hamiltonian formulation, we demonstrate that the Merton-Garman equation emerges naturally from the Black-Scholes equation after imposing invariance (symmetry) under local (gauge) transformations over changes in the stock price. This is the case because imposing gauge symmetry implies th
We study an optimal reinsurance problem under a diffusion risk model for an insurer who aims to minimize the probability of lifetime ruin. In this paper, we consider the portfolio optimization problem in a financial market where the underlying stochastic volatility model is driven by n-dimensional Brownian motions. At first, we derive a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation including the correlations among the standard Brownian motions. We
As a counterpart to the (static) risk measures of generalized quantiles and motivated by Bellini et al. The tail behavior of aggregates of heavy-tailed random vectors is known to be determined by the so-called principle of “one large jump’’, be it for finite sums, random sums, or, Lévy processes. We establish that, in fact, a more general principle is at play. Assuming that the random vectors are mult
We study zero-sum stochastic games between a singular controller and a stopper when the (state-dependent) diffusion matrix of the underlying controlled diffusion process is degenerate. In particular, we show the existence of a value for the game and determine an optimal strategy for the stopper. The
In actuarial science and quantitative finance, convex order provides a natural way to compare risks with the same mean. In dimension one, convex order is well understood through several characterisations. In higher dimensions, a natural approach is to compare all one-dimensional projections, but, al
We determine the leading logarithmic asymptotics of the fixed-maturity right tail of the SABR model with $β\in(0,1)$ and absorption at zero, for every correlation $ρ\in(-1,1)$. This paper studies the regularity of the value function arising from a multidimensional continuous-time principal-agent model with separable, nonquadratic effort costs. The associated stochastic control problem has the output and the agent’s continuation utility as state variables, and its Hamilton-
Although market participants generally have access to a common information set, they make decisions based on forecasts formed over heterogeneous horizons. Because market impact depends on aggregate positions rather than trader identities, these decisions feed back into prices through their collectiv

In this paper, we investigate a financial market model consisting of a risky asset, modeled as a general diffusion parameterized by a scale function and a speed measure, and a bank account process with a constant interest rate. This flexible class of financial market models allows for features such
We investigate a portfolio selection problem involving multi competitive agents, each exhibiting mean-variance preferences. Design and implementation of appropriate social protection strategies is one of the main targets of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1: No Poverty. Cash transfer (CT) programmes are considered one of the main social protection strategies and an instrument for achieving SDG 1. T
The Santa Fe model is an established econophysics model for describing stochastic dynamics of the limit order book from the viewpoint of the zero-intelligence approach. We present a novel approach for parameter calibration of the Heston model for pricing an Asian put option, namely space mapping. Since few parameters of the Heston model can be directly extracted from real market data, calibration to real market data is implicit and therefore a challenging task. In
In this short note, we address two issues in the literature about modern tontines with bequest and utility maximisation: how to verify optimal controls and the decreasing allocation of funds in the tontine. We want to raise awareness in the actuarial community about the dual approach to solve optima
We study a stochastic control problem with regime switching arising in an optimal liquidation problem with dark pools and multiple regimes. The new feature of this model is that it introduces a system of BSDEs with jumps and with singular terminal values, which appears in literature for the first ti
In this paper, we focus on a class of time-inconsistent stochastic control problems, where the objective function includes the mean and several higher-order central moments of the terminal value of state. To tackle the time-inconsistency, we seek both the closed-loop and the open-loop Nash equilibri
In this paper, we explore a new class of stochastic control problems characterized by specific control constraints. Specifically, the admissible controls are subject to the ratcheting constraint, meaning they must be non-decreasing over time and are thus self-path-dependent. This type of problems is
Thiele’s differential equation explains the change in prospective reserve and plays a fundamental role in safe-side calculations and other types of actuarial model comparisons. This paper presents a `model lean’ version of Thiele’s equation with the novel feature that it supports any canonical insur
In continuous time, the laws of martingales tend to be singular to each other. Notably, N. Gantert introduced the concept of specific relative entropy between real-valued continuous martingales, defined as a scaling limit of finite-dimensional relative entropies, and showed that this quantity is non
There are two predominant metrics to assess the performance of automated market makers and their profitability for liquidity providers: ‘impermanent loss’ (IL) and ’loss-versus-rebalance’ (LVR). In this short paper we shed light on the statistical aspects of both concepts and show that they are more
We consider the Merton problem of optimizing expected power utility of terminal wealth in the case of an unobservable Markov-modulated drift. What makes the model special is that the agent is allowed to purchase costly expert opinions of varying quality on the current state of the drift, leading to
This paper considers the setting governed by $(\mathbb{F},τ)$, where $\mathbb{F}$ is the “public” flow of information, and $τ$ is a random time which might not be $\mathbb{F}$-observable. This framework covers credit risk theory and life insurance. In this setting, we assume $\mathbb{F}$ being gener
Financial markets have long since been modeled using stochastic methods such as Brownian motion, and more recently, rough volatility models have been built using fractional Brownian motion. This fractional aspect brings memory into the system. In this project, we describe and analyze a financial mod
We introduce and study geometric Bass martingales. Bass martingales were introduced in \cite{Ba83} and studied recently in a series of works, including \cite{BaBeHuKa20,BaBeScTs23}, where they appear as solutions to the martingale version of the Benamou-Brenier optimal transport formulation.
