This is the mathematical core of derivatives pricing and dynamic optimization: diffusions and jump processes for prices, stochastic volatility (Heston, SABR, rough Bergomi) for option surfaces, backward SDEs and PDEs for valuation under frictions, and HJB equations for consumption, liquidation, and hedging problems. Papers here score high on math complexity almost by construction; the question is what they do on the empirical axis.
What to check when reading. Many papers in this family are theoretical by design and should be read as such: the contribution is a closed form, an existence result, or a numerical scheme. When a paper does claim market relevance, look for calibration to real option surfaces or realized paths with reported fit errors, out-of-sample pricing or hedging error rather than in-sample calibration, and an honest statement of what the model cannot reproduce (the ATM skew term structure is the usual casualty).
Recent advances in continuous-time optimal stopping have been driven by entropy-regularized formulations of randomized stopping problems, with most existing approaches relying on partial differential equation methods. In this paper, we propose a fully probabilistic framework based on the Doob-Meyer-
The skew stickiness ratio is a statistic that captures the joint dynamics of an asset price and its volatility. We derive a representation formula for this quantity using the Itô-Wentzell and Clark-Ocone formulae, and we apply it to analyze its asymptotics under Bergomi-type stochastic volatility mo
Dealers in foreign exchange markets provide bid and ask prices to their clients at which they are happy to buy and sell, respectively. To manage risk, dealers can skew their quotes and hedge in the interbank market. Hedging offers certainty but comes with transaction costs and market impact. Optimal
No-arbitrage asset pricing characterizes valuation through the existence of equivalent martingale measures relative to a filtration and a class of admissible trading strategies. In practice, pricing is performed across multiple asset classes driven by economic variables that are only partially spann
Achieving net-zero carbon emissions requires a transformation of energy systems, industrial processes, and consumption patterns. In particular, a transition towards that goal involves a gradual reduction of excess carbon emissions that are not essential for the well-functioning of society. In this p
We revisit the optimal dividend problem of de Finetti by adding a variance term to the usual criterion of maximizing the expected discounted dividends paid until ruin, in a singular control framework. Investors do not like variability in their dividend distribution, and the mean-variance (MV) criter
The calculation of the insurance liabilities of a cohort of dependent individuals in general requires the solution of a high-dimensional system of coupled linear forward integro-differential equations, which is infeasible for a larger cohort. However, by using a mean-field model, the high dimensiona
This paper investigates a robust optimal consumption, investment, and reinsurance problem for an insurer with Epstein-Zin recursive preferences operating under model uncertainty. The insurer’s surplus follows the diffusion approximation of the Cramér-Lundberg model, and the insurer can purchase prop
This paper addresses the problem of determining the optimal time for an individual to convert retirement savings into a lifetime annuity. The individual invests their wealth into a dividend-paying fund that follows the dynamics of a geometric Brownian motion, exposing them to market risk. At the sam
This paper presents a derivation of the explicit price for the perpetual American put option time-capped by the first drawdown epoch beyond a predefined level. We consider the market in which an asset price is described by geometric Lévy process with downward exponential jumps. We show that the opti
This paper considers an insurer with two collaborating business lines, and the risk exposure of each line follows a diffusion risk model. The manager of the insurer makes three decisions for each line: (i) dividend payout, (ii) (proportional) reinsurance coverage, and (iii) capital injection (from o
The paper derives the dynamics of a financial market from basic mathematical principles. It models the market dynamics using independent stationary scalar diffusions, assumes the existence of its growth optimal portfolio (GOP), interprets the market as a communication system, and minimizes, in an in
We investigate the full dynamics of capital allocation and wealth distribution of heterogeneous agents in a frictional economy during booms and busts using tools from mean-field games. Two groups in our models, namely the expert and the household, are interconnected within and between their classes
This paper investigates the dynamic reinsurance design problem under the mean-variance criterion, incorporating heterogeneous beliefs between the insurer and the reinsurer, and introducing an incentive compatibility constraint to address moral hazard. The insurer’s surplus process is modeled using t
Computational efficiency is essential for enhancing the accuracy and practicality of pricing complex financial derivatives. In this paper, we discuss Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) for valuing financial derivatives, modeled by two nonlinear Black-Scholes PDEs: the Leland model for European call with tr
This paper studies the robust reinsurance and investment games for competitive insurers. Model uncertainty is characterized by a class of equivalent probability measures. Each insurer is concerned with relative performance under the worst-case scenario. Insurers’ surplus processes are approximated b
Examples of stochastic processes whose state space representations involve functions of an integral type structure $$I_{t}^{(a,b)}:=\int_{0}^{t}b(Y_{s})e^{-\int_{s}^{t}a(Y_{r})dr}ds, \quad t\ge 0$$ are studied under an ergodic semi-Markovian environment described by an $S$ valued jump type process $
We develop a model based on mean-field games of competitive firms producing similar goods according to a standard AK model with a depreciation rate of capital generating pollution as a byproduct. Our analysis focuses on the widely-used cap-and-trade pollution regulation. Under this regulation, firms
We derive a semi-analytical pricing formula for European VIX call options under the Heston-Hawkes stochastic volatility model introduced in arXiv:2210.15343. This arbitrage-free model incorporates the volatility clustering feature by adding an independent compound Hawkes process to the Heston volati
The scope of this manuscript is to review some recent developments in statistics for discretely observed semimartingales which are motivated by applications for financial markets. Our journey through this area stops to take closer looks at a few selected topics discussing recent literature. We moreo
In this work, we give a generalized formulation of the Black-Scholes model. The novelty resides in considering the Black-Scholes model to be valid on ‘average’, but such that the pointwise option price dynamics depends on a measure representing the investors’ ‘uncertainty’. We make use of the theory
Given a general Itô semimartingale, its Markovian projection is an Itô process, with Markovian differential characteristics, that matches the one-dimensional marginal laws of the original process. We construct Markovian projections for Itô semimartingales with jumps, whose flows of one-dimensional m
Horizon risk (see arXiv:2301.04971) is studied in the context of cash non-additive fully-dynamic risk measures induced by BSDEs. Furthermore, we introduce a risk measure based on generalized Tsallis entropy which can dynamically evaluate the riskiness of losses considering both horizon risk and inte
We present a model for price dynamics in the Automated Market Makers (AMM) setting. Within this framework, we propose a reference market price following a geometric Brownian motion. The AMM price is constrained by upper and lower bounds, determined by constant multiplications of the reference price.
Portfolio’s optimal drivers for diversification are common causes of the constituents’ correlations. A closed-form formula for the conditional probability of the portfolio given its optimal common drivers is presented, with each pair constituent-common driver joint distribution modelled by Gaussian
This paper considers finitely many investors who perform mean-variance portfolio selection under relative performance criteria. That is, each investor is concerned about not only her terminal wealth, but how it compares to the average terminal wealth of all investors. At the inter-personal level, ea
We examine optimization problems in which an investor has the opportunity to trade in $d$ stocks with the goal of maximizing her worst-case cost of cumulative gains and losses. Here, worst-case refers to taking into account all possible drift and volatility processes for the stocks that fall within
We regard options on VIX and Realised Variance as solutions to path-dependent partial differential equations (PDEs) in a continuous stochastic volatility model. The modeling assumption specifies that the instantaneous variance is a $C^3$ function of a multidimensional Gaussian Volterra process; this
We introduce predictable relative forward performance processes (PRFPP) as a new framework for studying portfolio management within a competitive and incomplete market environment. Each agent trades a distinct stock following a binomial distribution with probabilities for a positive return depending
In this paper, we present analytical proof demonstrating that the Sandwiched Volterra Volatility (SVV) model is able to reproduce the power-law behavior of the at-the-money implied volatility skew, provided the correct choice of the Volterra kernel. To obtain this result, we assess the second-order
This paper is concerned with a long standing optimal dividend payout problem subject to the so-called ratcheting constraint, that is, the dividend payout rate shall be non-decreasing over time and is thus self-path-dependent. The surplus process is modeled by a drifted Brownian motion process and th
In this work we consider the exponential utility maximization problem in the framework of semistatic hedging.
This paper is concerned with finite dimensional models for the entire term structure for energy futures. As soon as a finite dimensional set of possible yield curves is chosen, one likes to estimate the dynamic behaviour of the yield curve evolution from data. The estimated model should be free of a
This paper studies robust time-inconsistent (TIC) linear-quadratic stochastic control problems, formulated by stochastic differential games. By a spike variation approach, we derive sufficient conditions for achieving the Nash equilibrium, which corresponds to a time-consistent (TC) robust policy, u
We consider a mean-field model of firms competing à la Cournot on a commodity market, where the commodity price is given in terms of a power inverse demand function of the industry-aggregate production. Investment is irreversible and production capacity depreciates at a constant rate. Production is
For many examples of couples $(μ,ν)$ of probability measures on the real line in the convex order, we observe numerically that the Hobson and Neuberger martingale coupling, which maximizes for $ρ=1$ the integral of $|y-x|^ρ$ with respect to any martingale coupling between $μ$ and $ν$, is still a max
This paper studies Merton’s problem in an extended formulation by incorporating the benchmark tracking on the wealth process. We consider a tracking formulation where the fund manager aims to maximize the trade-off between the expected utility of consumption and the expected largest shortfall of the
We consider the strategic interaction of $n$ investors who are able to influence a stock price process and at the same time measure their utilities relative to the other investors. Our main aim is to find Nash equilibrium investment strategies in this setting in a financial market driven by a Browni
We consider the problem of simultaneously approximating the conditional distribution of market prices and their log returns with a single machine learning model. We show that an instance of the GDN model of Kratsios and Papon (2022) solves this problem without having prior assumptions on the market'
Quantum Stochastic Calculus can be used as a means by which randomness can be introduced to observables acting on a Hilbert space. In this article we show how the mechanisms of Quantum Stochastic Calculus can be used to extend the classical Black-Scholes framework by incorporating a breakdown in the
Most of the existing methods for pricing Asian options are less efficient in the limit of small maturities and small volatilities. In this paper, we use the large deviations theory for the analysis of short-maturity Asian options. We present a local volatility model for the underlying market that in
We extend upon the saddle-point equation presented in [1] to derive large-time model-implied volatility smiles, providing its theoretical foundation and studying its applications in classical models. As long as characteristic function fulfills a Lévy-type scaling behavior in large time, the approach
We consider an optimal control problem where the average welfare of weakly interacting agents is of interest. We examine the mean-field control problem as the fluid approximation of the N-agent control problem with the setup of finite-state space, continuous-time, and finite-horizon. The value funct
We introduce a mean-reverting stochastic differential equation with a three-component stochastic term and show that it generates a hierarchy of steady-state (stationary) distributions. At the top level, the hierarchy is described by a modified-Beta distribution, while one- and two-parameter reductio
We investigate a continuous-time financial market where the asset price exhibits weak (sublinear) mean reversion and has a nonzero drift. Complementing earlier work on strong (superlinear) mean reversion, we show that, for an investor maximizing expected exponential utility, the certainty equivalent
Feller random measures generalize the Feller diffusion (the CIR process) by giving it memory. They arise as the scaling limits of nearly unstable Hawkes processes, and include the rough CIR process and its hyper-rough and discontinuous relatives. We show that every Feller random measure is the occup
We study when to buy a share that will later be sold optimally, when the price follows a geometric multi-skew Brownian motion whose skew levels model support and resistance. The reward for buying is the exit premium of the liquidation problem solved in a companion paper. This premium is strictly $r$
We give sufficient conditions ensuring that, at every fixed positive time, the scalar backward component of a Markovian forward-backward stochastic differential equation with multidimensional forward process admits a density with respect to Lebesgue measure. Existing density criteria for BSDEs often
We consider the distribution-constrained optimal stopping problem $\sup_{τ\sim μ} \mathbb E[B^τ]$, where $μ$ is a probability distribution on $\mathbb R+$, and $(B^_t)$ denotes the running maximum of a standard Brownian motion. This problem was introduced in Beiglbock et al. (PTRF, 2018), where
We solve the perpetual liquidation problem for a geometric multi-skew Brownian motion carrying local-time pushes upward at a support level and downward at a resistance level, a model of technical analysis that is Markov in the price alone. Three geometries arise, separated by a closed-form criterion
In this paper, we study the diversification properties of convex combinations of iid infinitely divisible random variables. For Lévy processes with bounded variation sample paths, we characterize, in terms of subadditivity and concavity of the transformed Lévy tails, Lévy processes that exhibit the
We consider the Heston model with perfect negative spot–variance correlation and its one-dimensional local-volatility projection. Let $I_T^{\mathrm H}$ and $I_T^{\mathrm{LV}}$ denote their respective integrated variances over $[0,T]$. We establish the inequality [ \mathbb{E}\bigl[(I_T^{\mathrm H}-
We study the infinite-horizon optimal investment and consumption problem in a general class of continuous financial markets, where uncertainty is driven by a continuous non-decreasing stochastic clock representing accumulated variance. This framework encompasses classical Markovian and non-Markovian
We study robust bond valuation with endogenous short-rate feedback under volatility uncertainty. Within the $G$-expectation framework, the dependence of the short rate on the bond price yields a nonlinear fixed-point problem, represented by a quadratic $G$-BSDE for the logarithmic price. Under suita
We prove that the skew stickiness ratio converges to two at short maturity under local volatility models. This appears to be the first rigorous proof of this limit for a general time-dependent local volatility function. As a by-product, we strengthen the one-half rule of the implied volatility skew
Let (P) be a fixed physical law and let (Q) be an equivalent martingale measure selected from the martingale-measure set associated with a chosen numeraire. A change of numeraire maps (Q) to (T_LQ), where (d(T_LQ)=L,dQ) and (L) is the terminal likelihood ratio. The forward relative-entr
We develop an economic model of decentralised exchanges (DEXs) in which risk-averse liquidity providers (LPs) manage risk in a centralised exchange (CEX) based on preferences, information, and trading costs. Rational, risk-averse LPs anticipate the frictions associated with replication and manage ri
Based on the existing literature, this article presents the different ways of choosing the parameters of stochastic volatility models in general, in the context of pricing financial derivative contracts. This includes the use of stochastic volatility inside stochastic local volatility models.
We study a goal-based portfolio selection problem in which an investor aims to meet multiple financial goals, each with a specific deadline and target amount. Trading the stock incurs a strictly positive transaction cost. Using the stochastic Perron’s method, we show that the value function is the u
In this paper, we introduce the branched signature model, motivated by the branched rough path framework of [“Gubinelli, Journal of Differential Equations, 248(4), 2010”], which generalizes the classical geometric rough path. We establish a universal approximation theorem for the branched signature
This paper introduces a semi-analytical method for pricing American options on assets (stocks, ETFs) that pay discrete and/or continuous dividends. The problem is notoriously complex because discrete dividends create abrupt price drops and affect the optimal exercise timing, making traditional conti
We study a continuous-time portfolio optimization problem under an explicit constraint on the Deviation Conditional Value-at-Risk (DCVaR), defined as the difference between the CVaR and the expected terminal wealth. While the mean-CVaR framework has been widely explored, its time-inconsistency compl
We study the pricing of European-style options written on forward contracts within function-valued infinite-dimensional affine stochastic volatility models. The dynamics of the underlying forward price curves are modeled within the Heath-Jarrow-Morton-Musiela framework as solution to a stochastic pa
Volatility, as a primary indicator of financial risk, forms the foundation of classical frameworks such as Markowitz’s Portfolio Theory and the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH). However, its conventional use rests on assumptions-most notably, the Markovian nature of price dynamics-that often fail t
In this paper, we investigate mean-variance (MV) portfolio selection problems with jumps in a regime-switching financial model. The novelty of our approach lies in allowing not only the market parameters – such as the interest rate, appreciation rate, volatility, and jump intensity – to depend on th
Models for spin systems, known from statistical physics, are applied analogously in econometrics in the form of agent-based models. The models discussed in the econophysics literature all use the state variable $T$, which, in physics, represents the temperature of a system. However, there is little
This paper investigates optimal withdrawal strategies and behavior of policyholders in a variable annuity (VA) contract with a guaranteed minimum withdrawal benefit (GMWB) rider incorporating taxation and a ratchet mechanism for enhancing the benefit base during the life of the contract. We deal with the optimal execution problem when the broker’s goal is to reach a performance barrier avoiding a downside barrier. The performance is provided by the wealth accumulated by trading in the market, the shares detained by the broker evaluated at the market price plus a slippage cost yieldi
We introduce the resilience rate as a measure of financial resilience. It captures the expected rate at which a dynamic risk measure recovers, i.e., bounces back, when the risk-acceptance set is breached. We develop the corresponding stochastic calculus by establishing representation theorems for ex
In [“Han & Schied, 2023, \textit{“arXiv 2307.02582”}”], an easily computable scale-invariant estimator $\widehat{"\mathscr{R"}}^s_n$ was constructed to estimate the Hurst parameter of the drifted fractional Brownian motion $X$ from its antiderivative. This paper extends this convergence result by pr
We model the trading activity between a broker and her clients (informed and uninformed traders) as an infinite-horizon stochastic control problem. We derive the broker’s optimal dealing strategy in closed form and use this to introduce an algorithm that bypasses the need to calibrate individual par
We study the martingale property and moment explosions of a signature volatility model, where the volatility process of the log-price is given by a linear form of the signature of a time-extended Brownian motion. Excluding trivial cases, we demonstrate that the price process is a true martingale if
This paper is devoted to time-consistent control problems of portfolio selection with strictly monotone mean-variance preferences. These preferences are variational modifications of the conventional mean-variance preferences, and remain time-inconsistent as in mean-variance optimization problems. To
This paper examines the relationship between impermanent loss (IL) and loss-versus-rebalancing (LVR) in automated market makers (AMMs). Our main focus is on statistical properties, the impact of fees, the role of block times, and, related to the latter, the continuous time limit. We find there are t
We present a model of price formation in an inelastic market whose dynamics are partially driven by both money flows and their impact on asset prices. The money flow to the market is viewed as an investment policy of outside investors. For the price impact effect, we use an impact function that inco
We consider the singular vectors of any $m \times n$ submatrix of a rectangular $M \times N$ Gaussian matrix and study their asymptotic overlaps with those of the full matrix, in the macroscopic regime where $N ,/, M,$, $m ,/, M$ as well as $n ,/, N$ converge to fixed ratios. Our method makes
We study strategic interactions in a broker-mediated market. A broker provides liquidity to an informed trader and to noise traders while managing inventory in the lit market. The broker and the informed trader maximise their trading performance while filtering each other’s private information; the
We consider a microstructure foundation for rough volatility models driven by Poisson random measures. In our model the volatility is driven by self-exciting arrivals of market orders as well as self-exciting arrivals of limit orders and cancellations. The impact of market order on future order arri
We study small-time central limit theorems for stochastic Volterra integral equations with Hölder continuous coefficients and general locally square integrable Volterra kernels. We prove the convergence of the finite-dimensional distributions, a functional CLT, and limit theorems for smooth transfor
In the realm of option pricing, existing models are typically classified into principle-driven methods, such as solving partial differential equations (PDEs) that pricing function satisfies, and data-driven approaches, such as machine learning (ML) techniques that parameterize the pricing function d
Traditional Markowitz portfolio optimization constrains daily portfolio variance to a target value, optimising returns, Sharpe or variance within this constraint. However, this approach overlooks the relationship between variance at different time scales, typically described by $σ(Δt) \propto (Δt)^{
This paper studies a type of periodic utility maximization problems for portfolio management in incomplete stochastic factor models with convex trading constraints. The portfolio performance is periodically evaluated on the relative ratio of two adjacent wealth levels over an infinite horizon, featu
We introduce an infinite-horizon, continuous-time portfolio selection problem faced by an agent with periodic S-shaped preference and present bias. The inclusion of a quasi-hyperbolic discount function leads to time-inconsistency and we characterize the optimal portfolio for a pre-committing, naive
We mathematically demonstrate how and what it means for two collective pension funds to mutually insure one another against systematic longevity risk. The key equation that facilitates the exchange of insurance is a market clearing condition. This enables an insurance market to be established even i
In this article, we propose novel boundary treatment algorithms to avoid order reduction when implicit-explicit Runge-Kutta time discretization is used for solving convection-diffusion-reaction problems with time-dependent Di-richlet boundary conditions. We consider Cartesian meshes and PDEs with st
This paper studies an asset pricing model in a partially observable market with a large number of heterogeneous agents using the mean field game theory. In this model, we assume that investors can only observe stock prices and must infer the risk premium from these observations when determining trad
The aim of this work is to propose an end-by-end modeling framework to evaluate the risk measures of a bank’s portfolio of collateralized loans in an economy subject to the climate transition. The economy, organized in sectors, is driven by a multidimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (OU) productivity pro
This paper compares and contrasts stationarity between the conventional stock market and cryptocurrency. The dataset used for the analysis is the intraday price indices of the S&P500 from 1996 to 2023 and the intraday Bitcoin indices from 2019 to 2023, both in USD. We adopt the definition of `wide s
We study the perfect information Nash equilibrium between a broker and her clients – an informed trader and an uniformed trader. In our model, the broker trades in the lit exchange where trades have instantaneous and transient price impact with exponential resilience, while both clients trade with t
Experimentation involves risk. The investigator expends time and money in the pursuit of data that supports a hypothesis. In the end, the investigator may find that all of these costs were for naught and the data fail to reject the null. Furthermore, the investigator may not be able to test other hy
Building on the macroscopic market making framework as a control problem, this paper investigates its extension to stochastic games. In the context of price competition, each agent is benchmarked against the best quote offered by the others. We begin with the linear case. While constructing the solu
This paper presents an asset pricing model in an incomplete market involving a large number of heterogeneous agents based on the mean field game theory. We study how trading fees and continuous-time arbitrage affect the profitability of liquidity providers (LPs) in Geometric Mean Market Makers (G3Ms). We use stochastic reflected diffusion processes to analyze the dynamics of a G3M model under the arbitrage-driven market. Our research focuses on calc
We consider a class of optimal portfolio choice problems in continuous time where the agent’s transactions create both transient cross-impact driven by a matrix-valued Volterra propagator, as well as temporary price impact. We formulate this problem as the maximization of a revenue-risk functional,
We proposed a two-step Longstaff Schwartz Monte Carlo (LSMC) method with two regression models fitted at each time step to price game options. Although the original LSMC can be used to price game options with an enlarged range of path in regression and a modified cashflow updating rule, we identifie
This paper addresses the continuous-time portfolio selection problem under generalized disappointment aversion (GDA). We develop a numerical method for the martingale analogue of the Benamou-Brenier optimal transport problem, which seeks a martingale interpolating two prescribed marginals which is closest to the Brownian motion. Recent contributions have established existence and uniqueness for the optimal martinga
