Commodity and energy markets break the assumptions that equity research takes for granted: the underlying is physical, storage and delivery matter, prices spike and mean-revert on seasonal and weather cycles, and in electricity the asset cannot be stored at all. That is why this literature has its own models — futures-curve dynamics, storage-constrained pricing, spike-jump processes for power, and the carbon-market mechanics of emission allowances — and why volatility and forecasting results from equities rarely transfer.
The rigor split here is stark. Forecasting papers (oil, gas, power prices) often test against naïve and seasonal baselines on real data and score well. Pricing and hedging papers for structured energy contracts tend to be theory-first. When a paper claims a trading result, check whether it uses tradable front-month contracts with roll costs or a spliced continuous series that never existed, and whether the sample includes 2020–2022, the stress test nothing in this market escaped.

We develop a stochastic game-theoretic model for intraday dispatch of grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESSs). We assume that each BESS operator competitively manages her state-of-charge to maximize energy arbitrage revenues, driven by the endogenized electricity price that depends on the
Given the increasing importance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, particularly carbon emissions, we investigate optimal proportional portfolio insurance (PPI) strategies accounting for carbon footprint reduction. PPI strategies enable investors to mitigate downside risk while re
In power markets, Green Power Purchase Agreements have become an important contractual tool of the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources such as wind or solar radiation. Trading Green PPAs exposes agents to price risks and weather risks. Also, developed electricity markets feature
We investigate propagation of convexity and convex ordering on a typical discrete-time stochastic optimal control problem, namely the pricing of swing option. The dynamics of the underlying asset is modelled by the Euler scheme of a Brownian diffusion with affine drift, and convex volatility. We pro
The rapid development of information technology, especially the Internet, has facilitated users with a quick and easy way to seek information. With these convenience offered by internet services, many individuals who initially invested in gold and precious metals are now shifting into digital invest
Linear regression, firstly introduced for the pricing of American-style options, has since been expanded to include swing options pricing. Swing options price may be viewed as the solution to a Backward Dynamic Programming Principle, which involves a conditional expectation known as the continuation
This study analyzes the dynamic interactions among the NASDAQ index, crude oil, gold, and the US dollar using a reduced-order modeling approach. Time-delay embedding and principal component analysis are employed to encode high-dimensional financial dynamics, followed by linear regression in the redu
Following years of controversial discussions about the risks of market-based redispatch, the German transmission network operators finally installed regional redispatch markets by the end of 2024. Since water electrolysers are eligible market participants, the otherwise downwards redispatched renewa
Electricity price forecasting (EPF) plays a critical role in power system operation and market decision making. While existing review studies have provided valuable insights into forecasting horizons, market mechanisms, and evaluation practices, the rapid adoption of deep learning has introduced inc
Accurate electricity price forecasting (EPF) is crucial for effective decision-making in power trading on the spot market. While recent advances in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and pre-trained large language models (LLMs) have inspired the development of numerous time series foundation
The increasing vulnerability of power systems has heightened the need for operating reserves to manage contingencies such as generator outages, line failures, and sudden load variations. Unlike energy costs, driven by consumer demand, operating reserve costs arise from addressing the most critical c
The paper analyses trade between the most developed economies of the world. The analysis is based on the previously proposed model of international trade. This model of international trade is based on the theory of general economic equilibrium. The demand for goods in this model is built on the impo
Signature methods have been widely and effectively used as a tool for feature extraction in statistical learning methods, notably in mathematical finance. They lack, however, interpretability: in the general case, it is unclear why signatures actually work. The present article aims to address this i
Continuous double auctions are commonly used to match orders at currency, stock, and commodities exchanges. A verified implementation of continuous double auctions is a useful tool for market regulators as they give rise to automated checkers that are guaranteed to detect errors in the trade logs of
Emissions markets play a vital role in emissions reduction by incentivizing firms to minimize costs. However, their effectiveness heavily depends on the decisions of policymakers, future economic activity, and the availability of abatement technologies. This study investigates how variations in regu
The aim of this paper is to analyse the Bitcoin in order to shed some light on its nature and behaviour. We select 9 cryptocurrencies that account for almost 75% of total market capitalisation and compare their evolution with that of a wide variety of traditional assets: commodities with spot and fu
Forecasting crude oil prices remains challenging because market-relevant information is embedded in large volumes of unstructured news and is not fully captured by traditional polarity-based sentiment measures. This paper examines whether multi-dimensional sentiment signals extracted by large langua
Achieving net-zero carbon emissions requires a transformation of energy systems, industrial processes, and consumption patterns. In particular, a transition towards that goal involves a gradual reduction of excess carbon emissions that are not essential for the well-functioning of society. In this p
We introduce LemonadeBench v0.5, a minimal benchmark for evaluating economic intuition, long-term planning, and decision-making under uncertainty in large language models (LLMs) through a simulated lemonade stand business. Data assets are data commodities that have been processed, produced, priced, and traded based on actual demand. Reasonable pricing mechanism for data assets is essential for developing the data market and realizing their value. Most existing literature approaches data asset pricing from the seller’s
