Insurance research shares its toolkit with trading research — risk measures, stochastic control, extreme-value statistics — but asks different questions: how to price a liability whose payoff is a claim rather than a market quote, how to share risk between insurer, reinsurer, and policyholder, how to fund annuities when people live longer than the tables said, and how much capital keeps the firm solvent at a regulatory confidence level. Papers here range from premium-principle theory to catastrophe-bond pricing and pension-fund asset allocation.
Read with two filters. First, which data the paper touches: actuarial work often validates on simulated claim processes, so a paper that fits real loss or mortality data earns its rigor score. Second, which regulatory frame it assumes — Solvency II, Swiss Solvency Test, or risk-based capital rules change the risk measure, the horizon, and the answer. Risk-measure theory with insurance motivation also lives in the Risk Management hub; the two overlap on purpose.

We study a reinsurer who faces multiple sources of model uncertainty. The reinsurer offers contracts to $n$ insurers whose claims follow compound Poisson processes representing both idiosyncratic and systemic sources of loss. As the reinsurer is uncertain about the insurers’ claim severity distribut
Optimal investment strategies of an individual worker during the accumulation phase in the defined contribution pension scheme have been well studied in the literature. Most of them adopted the classical backward model and approach, but any pre-specifications of retirement time, preferences, and mar
We systematically study pairwise counter-monotonicity, an extremal notion of negative dependence. A stochastic representation and an invariance property are established for this dependence structure. We show that pairwise counter-monotonicity implies negative association, and it is equivalent to joi
This paper investigates a Stackelberg game between an insurer and a reinsurer under the $α$-maxmin mean-variance criterion. The insurer can purchase per-loss reinsurance from the reinsurer. With the insurer’s feedback reinsurance strategy, the reinsurer optimizes the reinsurance premium in the Stack
We consider an optimal dividend payout problem for an insurance company whose surplus follows the classical Cramér-Lundberg model. The dividend rate is subject to a ratcheting constraint (i.e., it must be nondecreasing over time), and the company may inject capital at a proportional cost to avoid ru
In this paper, we derive explicit closed-form solutions for the value function and the associated optimal stopping boundaries in an optimal annuitization problem under a mortality shock. We consider an individual whose retirement wealth is invested in a financial fund following the dynamics of a geo
This paper studies the mathematical problem of allocating payouts (compensations) in an endowment contingency fund using a risk-sharing rule that satisfies full allocation. Besides the participants, an administrator manages the fund by collecting ex-ante contributions to establish the fund and distr
Risk-sharing is one way to pool risks without the need for a third party. To ensure the attractiveness of such a system, the rule should be accepted and understood by all participants. A desirable risk-sharing rule should fulfill actuarial fairness and Pareto optimality while being easy to compute.
This paper proposes a formal multi-agent architecture for implementing enterprise AI in regulated insurance firms, integrating economic theory with institutional design. The framework synthesises three core theoretical perspectives: Arrow’s risk pooling theory to formalise risk transformation under
Claims reserving is one of the most important actuarial tasks in non-life insurance modeling. There are several popular methods to perform claims reserving such as the chain-ladder (CL), the Bornhuetter–Ferguson (BF) or the generalized Cape Cod (GCC) methods. These methods have originally been intr
Regulatory and contractual constraints on individual exposures are standard in insurance and reinsurance markets, but a poorly designed constraint can distort the economic incentives of risk-averse agents. In the unconstrained problem, the classical comonotonic improvement theorem guarantees Pareto-
We are concerned with the market-consistent valuation of lifelong health insurance products, which are subject to adjustments derived from the actuarial equivalence principle and driven by (medical) inflation. Such products are well-established in the European national markets, and the dynamics of t
Cost-of-capital valuation is a well-established approach to the valuation of liabilities and is one of the cornerstones of current regulatory frameworks for the insurance industry. Standard cost-of-capital considerations typically rely on the assumption that the required buffer capital is held in ri
In this paper we study the pricing and hedging of nonreplicable contingent claims, such as long-term insurance contracts like variable annuities. Our approach is based on the benchmark-neutral pricing framework of Platen (2024), which differs from the classical benchmark approach by using the stock
This review paper explores the evolution and implementation of target-date funds (TDFs), specifically focusing on their application within the context of Chile’s 2025 pension reform. The introduction of TDFs marks a significant shift in Chile’s pension system, which has traditionally relied on a mul
In economic analysis, rational decision-makers often take actions to reduce their risk exposure. These actions include purchasing market insurance and implementing prevention measures to modify the shape of the loss distribution. Under the assumption that the insureds’ actions are fully observed by
We develop a unified framework for modeling multiple term structures arising in financial, insurance, and energy markets, adopting an extended Heath-Jarrow-Morton (HJM) approach under the real-world probability. We study market viability and characterize the set of local martingale deflators. We con
This paper analyzes the equilibrium of insurance market in a dynamic setting, focusing on the interaction between insurers’ underwriting and investment strategies. Three possible equilibrium outcomes are identified: a positive insurance market, a zero insurance market, and market failure. Our findin
In order to properly manage risk, practitioners must understand the aggregate risks they are exposed to. Additionally, to properly price policies and calculate bonuses the relative riskiness of individual business units must be well understood. Certainly, Insurers and Financiers are interested in th
Weather parametric insurance relies on weather indices rather than actual loss assessments, enhancing claims efficiency, reducing moral hazard, and improving fairness. In the context of increasing climate change risks, despite growing interest and demand,, weather parametric insurance’s market share
