Text became a mainstream data source for quant research in three waves: dictionary-based sentiment scoring of news and filings, supervised NLP on earnings calls and social media, and — since 2023 — large language models used for everything from extracting signals to simulating analysts. This hub tracks all three, with the LLM wave now dominating new submissions.
The evaluation bar shifts with each wave, and it’s worth knowing where it currently stands: for LLM-based trading papers, the critical flaw to check is temporal leakage — a model whose training data includes the test period’s news has seen the future, and many published backtests fail exactly this test. The papers ranked highest below either use point-in-time text data with pre-cutoff models or study tasks (extraction, classification, summarization quality) where leakage doesn’t invalidate the result. Sentiment-signal decay is the other recurring theme: documented text signals fade fast once published.

In computational paralinguistics, detecting cognitive load and deception from speech signals is a heavily researched domain. Recent efforts have attempted to apply these acoustic frameworks to corporate earnings calls to predict catastrophic stock market volatility. In this study, we empirically inv
Accurately forecasting central bank policy decisions, particularly those of the Federal Open Market Committee(FOMC) has become increasingly important amid heightened economic uncertainty. While prior studies have used monetary policy texts to predict rate changes, most rely on static classification
Recently, reinforcement learning has achieved remarkable results in various domains, including robotics, games, natural language processing, and finance. In the financial domain, this approach has been applied to tasks such as portfolio optimization, where an agent continuously adjusts the allocatio
Financial analysis presents complex challenges that could leverage large language model (LLM) capabilities. However, the scarcity of challenging financial datasets, particularly for Japanese financial data, impedes academic innovation in financial analytics. As LLMs advance, this lack of accessible
In this study, we propose a novel machine-learning-based measure for stock price crash risk, utilizing the minimum covariance determinant methodology. Employing this newly introduced dependent variable, we predict stock price crash risk through cross-sectional regression analysis. The findings confi
We introduce the Contrastive Similarity Space Embedding Algorithm (ContraSim), a novel framework for uncovering the global semantic relationships between daily financial headlines and market movements. ContraSim operates in two key stages: (I) Weighted Headline Augmentation, which generates augmente
This paper explores how Large Language Models (LLMs) behave in a classic experimental finance paradigm widely known for eliciting bubbles and crashes in human participants. We adapt an established trading design, where traders buy and sell a risky asset with a known fundamental value, and introduce
Large language models (LLMs) excel at generating human-like responses but often struggle with interactive tasks that require access to real-time information. This limitation poses challenges in finance, where models must access up-to-date information, such as recent news or price movements, to suppo
Financial sentiment analysis is crucial for understanding the influence of news on stock prices. Recently, large language models (LLMs) have been widely adopted for this purpose due to their advanced text analysis capabilities. However, these models often only consider the news content itself, ignor
Financial analysis relies heavily on the interpretation of earnings reports to assess company performance and guide decision-making. Traditional methods for generating such analyzes require significant financial expertise and are often time-consuming. With the rapid advancement of Large Language Mod
This study explores the comparative performance of cutting-edge AI models, i.e., Finaance Bidirectional Encoder representations from Transsformers (FinBERT), Generatice Pre-trained Transformer GPT-4, and Logistic Regression, for sentiment analysis and stock index prediction using financial news and
In the recent past, there were several works on the prediction of stock price using different methods. Sentiment analysis of news and tweets and relating them to the movement of stock prices have already been explored. But, when we talk about the news, there can be several topics such as politics, m
This paper introduces the UCFE: User-Centric Financial Expertise benchmark, an innovative framework designed to evaluate the ability of large language models (LLMs) to handle complex real-world financial tasks. UCFE benchmark adopts a hybrid approach that combines human expert evaluations with dynam
We propose that a tree-like hierarchical structure represents a simple and effective way to model the emergent behaviour of financial markets, especially markets where there exists a pronounced intersection between social media influences and investor behaviour. To explore this hypothesis, we introd
Large language models (LLMs) and their fine-tuning techniques have demonstrated superior performance in various language understanding and generation tasks. This paper explores fine-tuning LLMs for stock return forecasting with financial newsflow. In quantitative investing, return forecasting is fun
In the realm of financial analytics, leveraging unstructured data, such as earnings conference calls (ECCs), to forecast stock volatility is a critical challenge that has attracted both academics and investors. While previous studies have used multimodal deep learning-based models to obtain a genera
