Risk management research divides into measurement and mechanism. The measurement literature — VaR and expected shortfall estimation, extreme value theory, drawdown analysis — asks how to quantify what can go wrong in a portfolio. The mechanism literature — systemic risk, contagion networks, stress testing — asks how losses propagate between institutions and markets.
The practical test for measurement papers is backtesting honesty: a VaR model is only as good as its violation rate and the independence of its violations, and papers that report Kupiec or Christoffersen tests on out-of-sample data outrank those that stop at in-sample fit. For tail-risk work specifically, be wary of estimators tuned to one crisis; the ranking below rewards papers validated across multiple stress regimes. This is also where regulation (Basel’s shift from VaR to expected shortfall) keeps the academic work unusually connected to practice.

In this paper, we study how class imbalance, typical of low-default credit portfolios, affects the performance of logistic regression models. Using a simulation study with controlled data-generating mechanisms, we vary (i) the level of class imbalance and (ii) the strength of association between the
Credit risk assessment increasingly relies on diverse sources of information beyond traditional structured financial data, particularly for micro and small enterprises (mSEs) with limited financial histories. This study proposes a multimodal framework that integrates structured credit variables, cli
Systemic risk is the risk that a company- or industry-level risk could trigger a huge collapse of another or even the whole institution. Various systemic risk measures have been proposed in the literature to quantify the domino and (relative) spillover effects induced by systemic risks such as the w
A novel procedure is presented for finding the true but latent endpoints within the repayment histories of individual loans. The monthly observations beyond these true endpoints are false, largely due to operational failures that delay account closure, thereby corrupting some loans. Detecting these
In this research, starting from a widely accepted definition of risk, we support the idea that risk reduction is a more realistic objective than risk minimization, which represents a theoretical utopia. Furthermore, significant risk reduction can be achieved without relying on risk measurement and r
Transitioning a strategy from backtest to live trading is a common failure point for quantitative systems due to parameter overfitting, selection bias, and sensitivity to regime changes. This paper presents the AlgoXpert Alpha Research Framework, a standardized protocol that evaluates strategies acr
We introduce $\textbf{Slippage-at-Risk (SaR)}$, a quantitative framework for measuring liquidity risk in perpetual futures exchanges. Unlike backward-looking metrics such as Value-at-Risk computed on historical returns or realized deficit distributions, SaR provides a \emph{forward-looking} assessme
The role of collateral in derivative pricing has evolved beyond credit risk mitigation, particularly following the global financial crisis, when funding costs and basis spreads became central to valuation practices. This development coincided with the transition from the London Interbank Offered Rat
Value-at-Risk (VaR) estimation at high confidence levels is inherently a rare-event problem and is particularly sensitive to tail behavior and model misspecification. This paper studies the performance of two simulation-based VaR estimation approaches, importance sampling and discrete moment matchin
We provide an explicit solution for optimal option portfolios under variance and Value at Risk (VaR) minimization when the underlying returns follow a Student t-distribution. The novelty of our paper is the departure from the traditional normal returns setting. Our main contribution is the methodolo
We provide a survey of how techniques developed for the modelling of extremes naturally matter in insurance, and how they need to and can be adapted for the insurance applications. Topics covered include truncation, tempering, censoring and regression techniques. The discussed techniques are illustr
We develop a transparent and fully auditable LLM-based pipeline for macro-financial stress testing, combining structured prompting with optional retrieval of country fundamentals and news. The system generates machine-readable macroeconomic scenarios for the G7, which cover GDP growth, inflation, an
We extend the “probability-equivalent level of VaR and CoVaR” (PELCoV) methodology to accommodate bivariate risks modeled by a Student-t copula, relaxing the strong dependence assumptions of earlier approaches and enhancing the framework’s ability to capture tail dependence and asymmetric co-movemen
Myopic optimization (MO) outperforms reinforcement learning (RL) in portfolio management: RL yields lower or negative returns, higher variance, larger costs, heavier CVaR, lower profitability, and greater model risk. We model execution/liquidation frictions with mark-to-market accounting. Using Mall
This paper addresses the challenges of pricing exotic options and structured products, which traditional models often fail to handle due to their inability to capture real-world market phenomena like fat-tailed distributions and volatility clustering. We introduce a Diffusion-Conditional Probability
Credit ratings are widely used by investors as a screening device. We introduce and study several natural notions of risk consistency that promote prudent investment decisions in the framework of Choquet rating criteria. Three closely related notions of risk consistency are considered: with respect
Climate-related phenomena are increasingly affecting regions worldwide, manifesting as floods, water scarcity, and heat waves, significantly impairing companies’ assets and productivity. It is essential for asset managers to quantify the exposure of their portfolios to such risk. To this aim, we dev
This paper presents a novel risk-sensitive trading agent combining reinforcement learning and large language models (LLMs). We extend the Conditional Value-at-Risk Proximal Policy Optimization (CPPO) algorithm, by adding risk assessment and trading recommendation signals generated by a LLM from fina
This paper distinguishes between risk resonance and risk diversification relationships in the cryptocurrency market based on the newly developed asymmetric breakpoint approach, and analyzes the risk propagation mechanism among cryptocurrencies under extreme events. In addition, through the lens of n
We revisit the long-only trend-following strategy presented in A Century of Profitable Industry Trends by Zarattini and Antonacci, which achieved exceptional historical performance with an 18.2% annualized return and a Sharpe Ratio of 1.39.
