Risk management research divides into measurement and mechanism. The measurement literature — VaR and expected shortfall estimation, extreme value theory, drawdown analysis — asks how to quantify what can go wrong in a portfolio. The mechanism literature — systemic risk, contagion networks, stress testing — asks how losses propagate between institutions and markets.
The practical test for measurement papers is backtesting honesty: a VaR model is only as good as its violation rate and the independence of its violations, and papers that report Kupiec or Christoffersen tests on out-of-sample data outrank those that stop at in-sample fit. For tail-risk work specifically, be wary of estimators tuned to one crisis; the ranking below rewards papers validated across multiple stress regimes. This is also where regulation (Basel’s shift from VaR to expected shortfall) keeps the academic work unusually connected to practice.

Motivated by recent work on monotone additive statistics and questions regarding optimal risk sharing for return-based risk measures, we investigate the existence, structure, and applications of Meyer risk measures. Those are monetary risk measures consistent with fractional stochastic orders sugges
We study a general risk measure called the generalized shortfall risk measure, which was first introduced in Mao and Cai (2018). It is proposed under the rank-dependent expected utility framework, or equivalently induced from the cumulative prospect theory. This risk measure can be flexibly designed
Systemic risk is receiving increasing attention in the insurance industry. In this paper, we propose a multi-dimensional Lévy process-based renewal risk model with heterogeneous insurance claims, where every dimension indicates a business line of an insurer. We use the systemic expected shortfall (S
In this paper, we study convex risk measures with weak optimal transport penalties. In a first step, we show that these risk measures allow for an explicit representation via a nonlinear transform of the loss function. In a second step, we discuss computational aspects related to the nonlinear trans
Price-mediated contagion occurs when a positive feedback loop develops following a drop in asset prices which forces banks and other financial institutions to sell their holdings. Prior studies of such events fix the level of market liquidity without regards to the level of stress applied to the sys
The European debt purchase market as measured by the total book value of purchased debt approached 25bn euros in 2020 and it was growing at double-digit rates. This is an example of how big the debt collection and debt purchase industry has grown and the important impact it has in the financial sect
We study how the climate transition through a low-carbon economy, implemented by carbon pricing, propagates in a credit portfolio and precisely describe how carbon price dynamics affects credit risk measures such as probability of default, expected and unexpected losses. We adapt a stochastic multis
This paper presents a dynamic game framework to analyze the role of large banks in interbank markets. By extending existing models, we incorporate a large bank as a dynamic decision-maker interacting with multiple small banks. Using the mean-field game methodology and convex analysis, best-response
Permissionless blockchains offer an information environment where users can interact privately without fear of censorship. Financial services can be programmatically coded via smart contracts to automate transactions without the need for human intervention or knowing user identity. This new paradigm
Forecasting the loss given default (LGD) for defaulted Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loans poses a significant challenge due to the extended resolution and workout time associated with such defaults, particularly in CCAR and CECL framework where the utilization of post-default information, including
Systematic investment strategies are exposed to a subtle but pervasive vulnerability: the progressive erosion of their effectiveness as market regimes change. Traditional risk measures, designed to capture volatility or drawdowns, overlook this form of structural fragility. This article introduces a
Cyber risk has become a critical financial threat in today’s interconnected digital economy. This paper introduces a cyber-risk management framework for networked digital systems that combines the strategic behavior of players with contagion dynamics within a security game. We address the problem of
Financial institutions face a trade-off between predictive accuracy and interpretability when deploying machine learning models for credit risk. Monotonicity constraints align model behavior with domain knowledge, but their performance cost - the price of monotonicity - is not well quantified. This
We propose to model the records of the maximum Drawdown in capital markets by means a Piecewise Deterministic Markov Process (PDMP). We derive statistical results such as the mean and variance that describes the sequence of maximum Drawdown records. In addition, we developed a simulation study and t
The marketing departments of financial institutions strive to craft products and services that cater to the diverse needs of businesses of all sizes. However, it is evident upon analysis that larger corporations often receive a more substantial portion of available funds. This disparity arises from
This article develops multiple novel climate risk measures (or variables) based on the television news coverage by Bloomberg, CNBC, and Fox Business, and examines how they affect the systematic and idiosyncratic risks of clean energy firms in the United States. The measures are built on climate rela
Financial organisations such as brokers face a significant challenge in servicing the investment needs of thousands of their traders worldwide. This task is further compounded since individual traders will have their own risk appetite and investment goals. Traders may look to capture short-term tren
We introduce two quantum algorithms to compute the Value at Risk (VaR) and Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) of financial derivatives using quantum computers: the first by applying existing ideas from quantum risk analysis to derivative pricing, and the second based on a novel approach using Quantum
Mobile Internet user credit assessment is an important way for communication operators to establish decisions and formulate measures, and it is also a guarantee for operators to obtain expected benefits. However, credit evaluation methods have long been monopolized by financial industries such as ba
The integration and innovation of finance and technology have gradually transformed the financial system into a complex one. Analyses of the causesd of abnormal fluctuations in the financial market to extract early warning indicators revealed that most early warning systems are qualitative and causa
