Risk management research divides into measurement and mechanism. The measurement literature — VaR and expected shortfall estimation, extreme value theory, drawdown analysis — asks how to quantify what can go wrong in a portfolio. The mechanism literature — systemic risk, contagion networks, stress testing — asks how losses propagate between institutions and markets.
The practical test for measurement papers is backtesting honesty: a VaR model is only as good as its violation rate and the independence of its violations, and papers that report Kupiec or Christoffersen tests on out-of-sample data outrank those that stop at in-sample fit. For tail-risk work specifically, be wary of estimators tuned to one crisis; the ranking below rewards papers validated across multiple stress regimes. This is also where regulation (Basel’s shift from VaR to expected shortfall) keeps the academic work unusually connected to practice.

This paper studies the pricing of contingent claims of American style, using indifference pricing by fully dynamic convex risk measures. We provide a general definition of risk-indifference prices for buyers and sellers in continuous time, in a setting where buyer and seller have potentially differe
Reducing financial risk is of paramount importance to investors, financial institutions, and corporations. Since the pioneering contribution of Johnson (1960), the optimal hedge ratio based on futures is regularly utilized. The current paper suggests an explicit and efficient method for testing the
For refracted skew Brownian motion (skew Brownian motion with two-valued drift), adopting a perturbation approach we find expressions of its potential densities. As applications, we recover its transition density and study its long-time asymptotic behaviors. In addition, we also compare with previou
Building on the one-to-one relationship between generalized FGM copulas and multivariate Bernoulli distributions, we prove that the class of multivariate distributions with generalized FGM copulas is a convex polytope. Therefore, we find sharp bounds in this class for many aggregate risk measures, s
The $\ell_0$-constrained mean-CVaR model poses a significant challenge due to its NP-hard nature, typically tackled through combinatorial methods characterized by high computational demands. From a markedly different perspective, we propose an innovative autonomous sparse mean-CVaR portfolio model,
The systemic risk measure plays a crucial role in analyzing individual losses conditioned on extreme system-wide disasters. In this paper, we provide a unified asymptotic treatment for systemic risk measures. First, we classify them into two families of Value-at-Risk- (VaR-) and expectile-based syst
This paper introduces and studies factor risk measures. While risk measures only rely on the distribution of a loss random variable, in many cases risk needs to be measured relative to some major factors. In this paper, we introduce a double-argument mapping as a risk measure to assess the risk rela
We introduce the concept of partial law invariance, generalizing the concepts of law invariance and probabilistic sophistication widely used in decision theory, as well as statistical and financial applications. This new concept is motivated by practical considerations of decision making under uncer
The assessment of risk based on historical data faces many challenges, in particular due to the limited amount of available data, lack of stationarity, and heavy tails. While estimation on a short-term horizon for less extreme percentiles tends to be reasonably accurate, extending it to longer time
Credit Valuation Adjustment is a balance sheet item which is nowadays subject to active risk management by specialized traders. However, one of the most important risk factors, which is the vector of default intensities of the counterparty, affects in a non-differentiable way the most general Monte
Financial market forecasting remains a formidable challenge despite the surge in computational capabilities and machine learning advancements. While numerous studies have underscored the precision of computer-generated market predictions, many of these forecasts fail to yield profitable trading outc
Differential sensitivity measures provide valuable tools for interpreting complex computational models used in applications ranging from simulation to algorithmic prediction. Taking the derivative of the model output in direction of a model parameter can reveal input-output relations and the relativ
For vanilla derivatives that constitute the bulk of investment banks’ hedging portfolios, central clearing through central counterparties (CCPs) has become hegemonic. A key mandate of a CCP is to provide an efficient and proper clearing member default resolution procedure. When a clearing member def
In academic literature portfolio risk management and hedging are often versed in the language of stochastic control and Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman~(HJB) equations in continuous time. In practice the continuous-time framework of stochastic control may be undesirable for various business reasons. In this
The stability of a complex financial system may be assessed by measuring risk contagion between various financial institutions with relatively high exposure. We consider a financial network model using a bipartite graph of financial institutions (e.g., banks, investment companies, insurance firms) o
This paper investigates an optimal investment problem under the tail Value at Risk (tail VaR, also known as expected shortfall, conditional VaR, average VaR) and portfolio insurance constraints confronted by a defined-contribution pension member. The member’s aim is to maximize the expected utility
The paper investigates the robust optimized certainty equivalents and analyzes the relevant properties of them as risk measures for loss positions with distribution uncertainty. On this basis, the robust generalized quantiles are proposed and discussed. The robust expectiles with two specific penali
Tail risk measures are fully determined by the distribution of the underlying loss beyond its quantile at a certain level, with Value-at-Risk, Expected Shortfall and Range Value-at-Risk being prime examples. They are induced by law-based risk measures, called their generators, evaluated on the tail

As life expectancy in Kenya increases, so does the need for efficient pension schemes that can secure a dignified retirement and protect members from old age poverty.
