Risk management research divides into measurement and mechanism. The measurement literature — VaR and expected shortfall estimation, extreme value theory, drawdown analysis — asks how to quantify what can go wrong in a portfolio. The mechanism literature — systemic risk, contagion networks, stress testing — asks how losses propagate between institutions and markets.
The practical test for measurement papers is backtesting honesty: a VaR model is only as good as its violation rate and the independence of its violations, and papers that report Kupiec or Christoffersen tests on out-of-sample data outrank those that stop at in-sample fit. For tail-risk work specifically, be wary of estimators tuned to one crisis; the ranking below rewards papers validated across multiple stress regimes. This is also where regulation (Basel’s shift from VaR to expected shortfall) keeps the academic work unusually connected to practice.

We propose a credit risk model for portfolios composed of green and brown loans, extending the ASRF framework via a two-factor copula structure. Systematic risk is modeled using potentially skewed distributions, allowing for asymmetric creditworthiness effects, while idiosyncratic risk remains Gauss
In this paper, we address linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) risk-sensitive mean field games (MFGs) with common noise. In this framework agents are exposed to a common noise and aim to minimize an exponential cost functional that reflects their risk sensitivity. We leverage the convex analysis method t
Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending connects borrowers and lenders through online platforms but suffers from significant information asymmetry, as lenders often lack sufficient data to assess borrowers’ creditworthiness. This paper addresses this challenge by leveraging BERT, a Large Language Model (LLM) kno
This paper studies optimal insurance design under asymmetric information in a Stackelberg framework, where a monopolistic insurer faces uncertainty about both the insured’s risk attitude, captured by a risk-aversion parameter, and the insured’s risk type, characterized by the loss distribution. In p
Decentralized finance introduces new business models and use cases as part of digital finance. Restaking has recently emerged as a transformative mechanism in DeFi, promising extra yields but introducing complex and interconnected risks. The paper monitors the current restaking landscape, empiricall
Prediction markets provide a unique setting where event-level time series are directly tied to natural-language descriptions, yet discovering robust lead-lag relationships remains challenging due to spurious statistical correlations. We propose a hybrid two-stage causal screener to address this chal
We consider a reflected process in the positive orthant driven by an exogenous jump process. For a given input process, we show that there exists a unique minimal strong solution to the given particle system up until a certain maximal stopping time, which is stated explicitly in terms of the dual fo
We argue that negative skew and positive mean of the distribution of stock returns are largely due to the broken symmetry of stochastic volatility governing gains and losses. Starting with stochastic differential equations for stock returns and for stochastic volatility we argue that the distributio
Financial exclusion constrains entrepreneurship, increases income volatility, and widens wealth gaps. Underbanked consumers in Istanbul often have no bureau file because their earnings and payments flow through informal channels. To study how such borrowers can be evaluated we create a synthetic dat
We introduce a new risk modeling framework where chaotic attractors shape the geometry of Bayesian inference. By combining heavy-tailed priors with Lorenz and Rossler dynamics, the models naturally generate volatility clustering, fat tails, and extreme events. We compare two complementary approaches
SOFR derivatives market remains illiquid and incomplete so it is not amenable to classical risk-neutral term structure models which are based on the assumption of perfect liquidity and completeness. This paper develops a statistical SOFR term structure model that is well-suited for risk management a
This paper proposes a novel class of generalized Expected-Shortfall (ES) norms constructed via distortion risk measures, establishing a unified analytical framework for risk quantification. The proposed norms extend conventional ES methodology by incorporating flexible distortion functions. Specific
We present an architecture for managing Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) schemes. The current approach to UK CDC can be described as shared-indexation, where the nominal benefit of every member in a scheme receives the same level of indexation each year. The design of such schemes rely on the u
We propose and implement modern computational methods to enhance catastrophe excess-of-loss reinsurance contracts in practice. The underlying optimization problem involves attachment points, limits, and reinstatement clauses, and the objective is to maximize the expected profit while considering ris
With the introduction of the PSD2 regulation in the EU which established the Open Banking framework, a new window of opportunities has opened for banks and fintechs to explore and enrich Bank transaction descriptions with the aim of building a better understanding of customer behavior, while using t
Risk management in finance involves recognizing, evaluating, and addressing financial risks to maintain stability and ensure regulatory compliance. Extracting relevant insights from extensive regulatory documents is a complex challenge requiring advanced retrieval and language models. This paper int
This note outlines an approach to stress testing of covariance of financial time series, in the context of financial risk management. It discusses how the geodesic distance between covariance matrices implies a notion of plausibility of covariance stress tests. In this approach, correlation stress t
In the literature, insurance and reinsurance pricing is typically determined by a premium principle, characterized by a risk measure that reflects the policy seller’s risk attitude. Building on the work of Meyers (1980) and Chen et al. (2016), we propose a new performance-based variable premium sche
This paper studies an optimal consumption problem with both relaxed benchmark tracking and consumption drawdown constraint, leading to a stochastic control problem with dynamic state-control constraints. In our relaxed tracking formulation, it is assumed that the fund manager can strategically injec
In statistical analysis, many classic results require the assumption that models have finite mean or variance, including the most standard versions of the laws of large numbers and the central limit theorems. Such an assumption may not be completely innocent, and it may not be appropriate for datase
