This hub holds the mathematical engine room of quantitative finance: stochastic control (choose a policy that steers a diffusion), optimal stopping (choose a time to act), and the machinery that solves them — Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equations, viscosity solutions, backward stochastic differential equations, and mean-field games for the many-player limit. The classic applications are Merton-style consumption and investment, optimal liquidation, dividend and reinsurance control, and American-option exercise.
Most papers here are Lab Rats by our scoring: deep theory, little or no data. That is not a criticism of the work, but it changes how you read it. The questions that matter are whether the model’s state variables are observable in practice, whether the closed-form or numerical solution degrades gracefully when parameters are estimated rather than known, and whether a paper that claims a strategy ever confronts it with transaction costs or discrete rebalancing. The handful of papers that pair a control result with a calibrated numerical study rank highest below.

This paper studies a discrete-time mean-variance model based on reinforcement learning. Compared with its continuous-time counterpart in \cite{“zhou2020mv”}, the discrete-time model makes more general assumptions about the asset’s return distribution. Using entropy to measure the cost of exploration
In this paper, we introduce two novel methods to solve the American-style option pricing problem and its dual form at the same time using neural networks. Without applying nested Monte Carlo, the first method uses a series of neural networks to simultaneously compute both the lower and upper bounds
The twenty-first century’s transformative technology, artificial intelligence, is increasingly constrained by the twentieth century’s transformative technology, the electricity grid. Rapid growth in electricity demand from data centers is leading to higher electricity prices, without a compensating
We propose a novel framework for risk-sensitive reinforcement learning (RSRL) that incorporates robustness against transition uncertainty. We define two distinct yet coupled risk measures: an inner risk measure addressing state and cost randomness and an outer risk measure capturing transition dynam
We investigate the static portfolio selection problem of S-shaped and non-concave utility maximization under first-order and second-order stochastic dominance (SD) constraints. In many S-shaped utility optimization problems, one should require a liquidation boundary to guarantee the existence of a f
This paper develops a model for option market making in which the hedging activity of the market maker generates price impact on the underlying asset. The option order flow is modeled by Cox processes, with intensities depending on the state of the underlying and on the market maker’s quoted prices.
This paper investigates theoretical and methodological foundations for stochastic optimal control (SOC) in discrete time. We start formulating the control problem in a general dynamic programming framework, introducing the mathematical structure needed for a detailed convergence analysis. The associ
This paper investigates optimal investment and insurance strategies under a mean-variance criterion with path-dependent effects. We use a rough volatility model and a Hawkes process with a power kernel to capture the path dependence of the market. By adding auxiliary state variables, we degenerate a
In this paper, we propose an efficient implementation of deep policy gradient method (PGM) for optimal control problems in continuous time. The proposed method has the ability to manage the allocation of computational resources, number of trajectories, and complexity of architecture of the neural ne
Bertsimas and Lo’s seminal work laid the groundwork for addressing the implementation shortfall dilemma in institutional investing, emphasizing the significance of market microstructure and price dynamics in minimizing execution costs. However, the ability to derive a theoretical Optimum market orde
This paper investigates the optimal consumption, investment, and life insurance/annuity decisions for a family in an inflationary economy under money illusion. The family can invest in a financial market that consists of nominal bonds, inflation-linked bonds, and a stock index. The breadwinner can a
This paper addresses an important gap in rigorous numerical treatments for pricing American options under correlated two-asset jump-diffusion models using the viscosity solution framework, with a particular focus on the Merton model. The pricing of these options is governed by complex two-dimensiona
Decision-changing imitation is a prevalent phenomenon in financial markets, where investors imitate others’ decision-changing rates when making their own investment decisions. In this work, we study the optimal investment problem under the influence of decision-changing imitation involving one leadi
In hedge funds, convex compensation schemes are adopted to stimulate a high-profit performance for portfolio managers. In economics, non-monotone risk aversion is proposed to argue that individuals may not be risk-averse when the wealth level is low. Combining these two ingredients, we study the opt
Motivated by the equations of cross valuation adjustments (XVAs) in the realistic case where capital is deemed fungible as a source of funding for variation margin, we introduce a simulation/regression scheme for a class of anticipated BSDEs, where the coefficient entails a conditional expected shor
In this paper, we explore an optimal timing strategy for the trading of price spreads exhibiting mean-reverting characteristics. A sequential optimal stopping framework is formulated to analyze the optimal timings for both entering and subsequently liquidating positions, all while considering the im
In this research work, we propose a high-order time adapted scheme for pricing a coupled system of fixed-free boundary constant elasticity of variance (CEV) model on both equidistant and locally refined space-grid. The performance of our method is substantially enhanced to improve irregularities in
This paper studies dynamic asset allocation with interest rate risk and several sources of ambiguity. The market consists of a risk-free asset, a zero-coupon bond (both determined by a Vasicek model), and a stock. There is ambiguity about the risk premia, the volatilities, and the correlation. The i
Market making plays a crucial role in providing liquidity and maintaining stability in financial markets, making it an essential component of well-functioning capital markets. Despite its importance, there is limited research on market making in the Chinese stock market, which is one of the largest
Motivated by the current global high inflation scenario, we aim to discover a dynamic multi-period allocation strategy to optimally outperform a passive benchmark while adhering to a bounded leverage limit. To this end, we formulate an optimal control problem to outperform a benchmark portfolio thro
