Volatility is the most forecastable quantity in finance — unlike returns, it clusters, mean-reverts, and leaves a measurable footprint in high-frequency data. This hub collects the modeling lineage from GARCH through realized volatility built on intraday data, to rough volatility and the modern deep-learning forecasters, along with VIX and variance-risk-premium research.
Because volatility forecasting has real benchmarks, rigor is easier to judge here than elsewhere: a serious paper compares against HAR-RV (the stubborn workhorse baseline) on out-of-sample data, not just against its own ablations. Watch also for the evaluation-loss trap — rankings of volatility models flip depending on whether you score them with MSE, QLIKE, or economic value in an options or risk-targeting strategy, and good papers say so explicitly.

We create a time series model for annual returns of three asset classes: the USA Standard & Poor (S&P) stock index, the international stock index, and the USA Bank of America investment-grade corporate bond index. Using this, we made an online financial app simulating wealth process. This includes o
The Nested factor model was introduced by Chicheportiche et al. to represent non-linear correlations between stocks. Stock returns are explained by a standard factor model, but the (log)-volatilities of factors and residuals are themselves decomposed into factor modes, with a common dominant volatil
This study seeks to advance the understanding and prediction of stock market return uncertainty through the application of advanced deep learning techniques. We introduce a novel deep learning model that utilizes a Gaussian mixture distribution to capture the complex, time-varying nature of asset re
Missing data is a common problem in finance and often requires methods to fill in the gaps, or in other words, imputation. In this work, we focused on the imputation of missing implied volatilities for FX options. Prior work has used variational autoencoders (VAEs), a neural network-based approach,
This paper introduces an innovative realized volatility (RV) forecasting framework that extends the conventional Heterogeneous autoregressive (HAR) model via integrating Graph Signal Processing (GSP). The study first evaluates various constructions of volatility-interrelationship networks by analyzi
This study examines the interdependence between cryptocurrencies and international financial indices, such as MSCI World and MSCI Emerging Markets. We compute the value at risk, expected shortfall (ES), and range value at risk (RVaR) and investigate the dynamics of risk spillover. We employ a hybrid
This paper contributes to the existing literature on hedging American options with Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). The study first investigates hyperparameter impact on hedging performance, considering learning rates, training episodes, neural network architectures, training steps, and transactio
This article leverages deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to hedge American put options, utilizing the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) method. The agents are first trained and tested with Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM) asset paths and demonstrate superior performance over traditional strat
The increasing use of cryptoassets for international remittances has proven to be faster and more cost-effective, particularly for migrants without access to traditional banking. However, the inherent volatility of cryptoasset prices, independent of blockchain-based remittance mechanisms, introduces
In this paper, we present a new method for pricing CMS derivatives. We use Mallaivin’s calculus to establish a model-free connection between the price of a CMS derivative and a quadratic payoff. Then, we apply Watanabe’s expansions to quadratic payoffs case under local and stochastic local volatilit
This research incorporates realized volatility and overnight information into risk models, wherein the overnight return often contributes significantly to the total return volatility. Extending a semi-parametric regression model based on asymmetric Laplace distribution, we propose a family of RES-CA
Time variation and persistence are crucial properties of volatility that are often studied separately in energy volatility forecasting models. Here, we propose a novel approach that allows shocks with heterogeneous persistence to vary smoothly over time, and thus model the two together. We argue tha
We extend the application and test the performance of a recently introduced volatility prediction framework encompassing LSTM and rough volatility. Our asset class of interest is cryptocurrencies, at the beginning of the “crypto-winter” in 2022. We first show that to forecast volatility, a universal
We propose a novel framework for modeling time-varying persistence in economic time series, allowing for smoothly evolving heterogeneity in shock dynamics. We leverage localized regression techniques to flexibly identify changes in persistence over time, offering a data-driven alternative to traditi
We propose model-free (nonparametric) estimators of the volatility of volatility and leverage effect using high-frequency observations of short-dated options. At each point in time, we integrate available options into estimates of the conditional characteristic function of the price increment until
In high-dimensional time-series analysis, it is essential to have a set of key factors (namely, the style factors) that explain the change of the observed variable. For example, volatility modeling in finance relies on a set of risk factors, and climate change studies in climatology rely on a set of
This paper explores the implications of producing forecast distributions that are optimized according to scoring rules that are relevant to financial risk management. We assess the predictive performance of optimal forecasts from potentially misspecified models for i) value-at-risk and expected shor
This paper develops a mechanism through which costly changes in the representations used for portfolio choice can contribute to persistent signed order flow. Heterogeneous switching thresholds and opportunity volatility generate heterogeneous residence times, and renewal aggregation maps their execu
In this paper, we investigate a portfolio investment problem under volatility uncertainty and short-sale constraints market via sublinear expectation which is used to model volatility uncertainty. We assume the stocks admit volatility uncertainty. Thus the related portfolio has upper variance (maxim
This paper develops a deep learning-based framework for pricing convertible bonds with path-dependent contractual features, namely downward conversion price reset and issuer call clauses under rolling-window trigger rules, which are widespread in the convertible bond market. We formulate the valuati
