Volatility is the most forecastable quantity in finance — unlike returns, it clusters, mean-reverts, and leaves a measurable footprint in high-frequency data. This hub collects the modeling lineage from GARCH through realized volatility built on intraday data, to rough volatility and the modern deep-learning forecasters, along with VIX and variance-risk-premium research.
Because volatility forecasting has real benchmarks, rigor is easier to judge here than elsewhere: a serious paper compares against HAR-RV (the stubborn workhorse baseline) on out-of-sample data, not just against its own ablations. Watch also for the evaluation-loss trap — rankings of volatility models flip depending on whether you score them with MSE, QLIKE, or economic value in an options or risk-targeting strategy, and good papers say so explicitly.

Predicting the conditional evolution of Volterra processes with stochastic volatility is a crucial challenge in mathematical finance. While deep neural network models offer promise in approximating the conditional law of such processes, their effectiveness is hindered by the curse of dimensionality
This research proposes a novel arbitrage approach in multivariate pair trading, termed the Optimal Trading Technique (OTT). We present a method for selectively forming a “bucket” of fiat currencies anchored to cryptocurrency for monitoring and exploiting trading opportunities simultaneously. To addr
Cascades of events and extreme occurrences have garnered significant attention across diverse domains such as financial markets, seismology, and social physics. Such events can stem either from the internal dynamics inherent to the system (endogenous), or from external shocks (exogenous). The possib
This paper proposes a novel approach to hedging portfolios of risky assets when financial markets are affected by financial turmoils. We introduce a completely novel approach to diversification activity not on the level of single assets but on the level of ensemble algorithmic investment strategies
In the field of quantitative finance, volatility models, such as ARCH, GARCH, FIGARCH, SV, EWMA, play the key role in risk and portfolio management. Meanwhile, factor investing is more and more famous since mid of 20 century. CAPM, Fama French three factor model, Fama French five-factor model, MSCI
Selecting stock portfolios and assessing their relative volatility risk compared to the market as a whole, market indices, or other portfolios is of great importance to professional fund managers and individual investors alike. Our research uses the cross-sectional intrinsic entropy (CSIE) model to
This paper explores Artificial Neural Network (ANN) as a model-free solution for a calibration algorithm of option pricing models. We construct ANNs to calibrate parameters for two well-known GARCH-type option pricing models: Duan’s GARCH and the classical tempered stable GARCH that significantly im
Local Stochastic Volatility (LSV) models have been used for pricing and hedging derivatives positions for over twenty years. An enormous body of literature covers analytical and numerical techniques for calibrating the model to market data. However, the literature misses a potent approach commonly u
The stochastic volatility inspired (SVI) model is widely used to fit the implied variance smile. Presently, most optimizer algorithms for the SVI model have a strong dependence on the input starting point. In this study, we develop an efficient iterative algorithm for the SVI model based on a fixed-
Since the first death in China in early January 2020, the coronavirus (COVID-19) has spread across the globe and dominated the news headlines leading to fundame
The Heston stochastic-local volatility model, consisting of a asset price process and a Cox–Ingersoll–Ross-type variance process, offers a wide range of applications in the financial industry. The pursuit for efficient model evaluation has been assiduously ongoing and central to which is the numeric
We propose a novel asset allocation model using a Markov process of states defined by clustered efficient frontier coefficients. While most research in Markov models of the market characterize regimes using return and volatility, we instead propose characterizing these states using efficient frontie
Counterintuitively, the S&P 500 Index rose between January 1, 2022, and December 29, 2023, while exchange-traded funds (ETFs) seeking to deliver 2x and 3x daily returns of the index delivered substantially negative returns. Roughly two-thirds of the difference between the returns of the index and th
This paper investigates the valuation of variable annuity contracts with an early surrender option under non-Markovian models. Moreover, policyholders are provided with guaranteed minimum maturity and death benefits to protect against the downside risk. Unlike the existing literature, our variable a
We develop a semi-static framework for the variance-optimal hedging of multi-asset derivatives exposed to correlation and covariance risk. The approach combines continuous-time dynamic trading in the underlying assets with a static portfolio of auxiliary contingent claims. Using a multivariate Galtc
We investigate the data-driven discovery of parametric representations for implied volatility slices. Using symbolic regression, we search for simple analytic formulas that approximate the total implied variance as a function of log-moneyness and maturity. Our approach generates candidate parametriz
We present a study of the short-maturity asymptotics for VIX and European option prices in local-stochastic volatility models with compound Poisson jumps. Both out-of-the-money (OTM) and at-the-money (ATM) asymptotics are considered. The leading-order asymptotics are obtained in closed-form. We appl
Precise short-term price prediction in the highly volatile cryptocurrency market is critical for informed trading strategies. Although Temporal Fusion Transformers (TFTs) have shown potential, their direct use often struggles in the face of the market’s non-stationary nature and extreme volatility.
Filtering signal from noise is fundamental to accurately assessing spillover effects in financial markets. This study investigates denoised return and volatility spillovers across a diversified set of markets, spanning developed and developing economies as well as key asset classes, using a neural n
This paper proposes a simulation-based framework for assessing and improving the performance of a pension fund management scheme. This framework is modular and allows the definition of customized performance metrics that are used to assess and iteratively improve asset and liability management polic
