Volatility is the most forecastable quantity in finance — unlike returns, it clusters, mean-reverts, and leaves a measurable footprint in high-frequency data. This hub collects the modeling lineage from GARCH through realized volatility built on intraday data, to rough volatility and the modern deep-learning forecasters, along with VIX and variance-risk-premium research.
Because volatility forecasting has real benchmarks, rigor is easier to judge here than elsewhere: a serious paper compares against HAR-RV (the stubborn workhorse baseline) on out-of-sample data, not just against its own ablations. Watch also for the evaluation-loss trap — rankings of volatility models flip depending on whether you score them with MSE, QLIKE, or economic value in an options or risk-targeting strategy, and good papers say so explicitly.

In this study, we predict next-day movements of stock end-of-day implied volatility using random forests. Through an ablation study, we examine the usefulness of different sources of predictors and expose the value of attention and sentiment features extracted from Twitter. We study the approach on
We propose a non-parametric extension with leverage functions to the Andersen commodity curve model. We calibrate this model to market data for WTI and NG including option skew at the standard maturities. While the model can be calibrated by an analytical formula for the deterministic rate case, the
This paper investigates optimal investment and pension policies in a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) system supplemented by a buffer fund used as an intergenerational risk-sharing mechanism. The social planner’s preference criterion is represented by non-zero volatility forward Constant Relative Risk Aversion
It is well-known that, in the Bachelier model, when asset prices and volatilities are uncorrelated, the implied volatility coincides with the fair value of the volatility swap. In this paper, via classical Itô calculus and Taylor expansions, we write the price for out-of-the-money (OTM) and in-the-m
This study examines the effects of Trump-era tariffs on financial market efficiency by applying multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis to the return and absolute return time series of six major financial assets: the S&P 500, SSEC, VIX, BTC/USD, EUR/USD, and Gold. Using the Hurst exponent $h(2)
Generative models for financial time series often create data that look realistic and even reproduce stylized facts such as fat tails or volatility clustering. However, these apparent successes break down under trading backtests: models like GANs or WGAN-GP frequently collapse, yielding extreme and
A Bayesian analytics framework that precisely quantifies uncertainty offers a significant advance for financial risk management. We develop an integrated approach that consistently enhances the handling of risk in market volatility forecasting, fraud detection, and compliance monitoring. Our probabi
This paper investigates the continuous-time limit of score-driven models with long memory. By extending score-driven models to incorporate infinite-lag structures with coefficients exhibiting heavy-tailed decay, we establish their weak convergence, under appropriate scaling, to fractional Ornstein-U
This paper studies the pricing problem in which the underlying asset follows a non-Markovian stochastic volatility model. Classical partial differential equation methods face significant challenges in this context, as the option prices depend not only on the current state, but also on the entire his
This Ph.D. thesis explores approximations and regularity for the Heston stochastic volatility model through three interconnected works. The first work focuses on developing high-order weak approximations for the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) process, essential for financial modelling but challenging due
This study examines the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on market efficiency by analyzing three time series – price returns, absolute returns, and volatility increments – in stock (Deutscher Aktienindex, Nikkei 225, Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), and Volatility Index) and
Fourier-based methods are central to option pricing and hedging when the Fourier-Laplace transform of the log-price and integrated variance is available semi-explicitly. This is the case for the Volterra Stein-Stein stochastic volatility model, where the characteristic function is known analytically
This work aims to implement Long Short-Term Memory mixture density networks (LSTM-MDNs) for Value-at-Risk forecasting and compare their performance with established models (historical simulation, CMM, and GARCH) using a defined backtesting procedure. The focus was on the neural network’s ability to
Two formulations are proposed to filter out correlations in the residuals of the multivariate GARCH model. The first approach is to estimate the correlation matrix as a parameter and transform any joint distribution to have an arbitrary correlation matrix. The second approach transforms time series
We introduce a new identification strategy for uncertainty shocks to explain macroeconomic volatility in financial markets. The Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index (VIX) measures market expectations of future volatility, but traditional methods based on second-moment shocks and time-vary
Despite its practical significance, generating realistic synthetic financial time series is challenging due to statistical properties known as stylized facts, such as fat tails, volatility clustering, and seasonality patterns. Various generative models, including generative adversarial networks (GAN
This paper explores the application of Machine Learning techniques for pricing high-dimensional options within the framework of the Uncertain Volatility Model (UVM). The UVM is a robust framework that accounts for the inherent unpredictability of market volatility by setting upper and lower bounds o
The short maturity limit $T\to 0$ for the implied volatility of an Asian option in the Black-Scholes model is determined by the large deviations property for the time-average of the geometric Brownian motion. In this note we derive the subleading $O(T)$ correction to this implied volatility, using a
We develop a provably convergent kernel-based solver for path-dependent PDEs (PPDEs). Our numerical scheme leverages signature kernels, a recently introduced class of kernels on path-space. Specifically, we solve an optimal recovery problem by approximating the solution of a PPDE with an element of
An intriguing link between a wide range of problems occurring in physics and financial engineering is presented. These problems include the evolution of small perturbations of linear flows in hydrodynamics, the movements of particles in random fields described by the Kolmogorov and Klein-Kramers equ
